DAN'S HISTORY IN MUSICAL GROUPS
SYNESTHESIA (1969-1970)
Synesthesia in simple terms is a union of the senses (these were psychedelic times). We played Jimi Hendrix, Creedance Clearwater, Frank Zappa and Chet Atkins. We didn't know any better, we were country boys. Except our drummer, she was a girl.

METAL PLASTIC
(1970-1971)

- Dan Cunningham - bass
- Sam Dickel - drums
- also for a time -- Harry Seawell - guitar, Joyce Varner - vocal
FRIDAY (1971-1972)
This was really Rock and Roll. Loud Rock and Roll. It was a confusing name for the marquee..."Saturday Friday". After the organ player and I quit, they became Buck Run and were a local success.

DRUSCELLA
(1972)
(1972)
While searching for a name, one band member suggested "Druscella", which he explained was Latin for "five or more outcasts from society". We liked it! We later discovered it was his girlfriend's middle name. The saxophone and trumpet allowed us to play a variety of music: Chicago, James Brown, The Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rosie, not to mention polkas, christmas carols, Hank Williams...we should have been called "Anything For A Buck".
- Steve Caplinger - lead vocal
- Andy Ketterman - guitar/vocal
- Dave Piatt - drums/ vocal
- Hugh Lovelady - saxophone
- Craig Lovelady - trumpet
- Dan Cunningham - bass
TIGRESS / BUCKEYE GLITTER
(1973-1974)
(1973-1974)
A male keyboard player and I joined this formerly all girl band who had recorded a single in Nashville after their keyboard player (Pat Dickel) left. After more personnel changes, we were picked up by an agency in Columbus OH who hired us a manager and a correographer. We were sent to "school". We had lessons in presenting ourselves, dance steps, and the entire content of three shows. Presto! We became a show band and our name was changed to BUCKEYE GLITTER. I got fired sometime in 1974.

PLAY (1974)
Two former "GLITTER" members joined me in forming a new band with a guitar player. We took on the name of his old band. We sometimes played for starvation wages and gave it up before long. I tried my hand at earning an honest living, excavating indian ruins on Blennerhassett Island. Got one of the worst cases poison ivy in history...prompting me to move to the next band.
- Larry Dotson - guitar/vocal
- Wayne Lohr - keyboard/vocal
- Dan Cunningham - bass
- Steve Williams - drums
RUBAIYAT (1974-1975)
I joined this band in the middle of a road trip in western Kentucky. We worked steady, but I don't think we ever fulfilled the high hopes of our manager in Louisville.
- Kathy Delaney - lead vocal/keyboard
- Mike Leasure - guitar/vocal
- Kenny Benton - keyboard
- Dan Cunningham - bass
- Tom Tice - drums
INSURED SOUND
(1975)
(1975)
I was an original member of this commercial dance/club band in 1975. I moved to New York State later that year. The band continues to thrive to this day with all new members. David Piatt's son is now leader of the band.
- David Traugh - keyboard/vocal
- David Piatt - drums/vocal
- John Zyla - guitar
- Dan Cunningham - bass

TRADITIONAL STRING ENSEMBLE (1985-1986)
I joined up with West Virginia legends Robin Kessinger (National Flat-picking Champion 1985), his brother Dan, son of the famous Roy Clark, and Jenny Allinder to form this group. Along with some others, we played on Robin's 1986 album, Not For Flatpickers Only.
THE REVELATIONS (1995?)
This band was short lived, but made some great music. I was the only white guy in this band and was drafted to play guitar. A real challenge for me, especially with the progressive chords. The keyboard player would say something like, "I think the next chord is an e flat seven flat 5 sharp 9". He improvise the next time we played it and use a different chord. This was my first and last experience on the electric guitar.
- Aldrea Reese-Brown - vocal
- Mel Ashforth - keyboard/vocal
- Dan Cunningham - guitar
- Julian Thomas - bass
- ?? - drums
