THE DESCENDANTS OF EDWARD CUNNINGHAM

Randall was born May 31, 1855 in Belmont County, Ohio. After his father Edward's death, he moved to Belleville, West Virginia with his mother, Martha Austin Trisler Cunningham. Randall married Virginia Ellen McKenzie on September 14, 1880 in Wood County WV. Virgina was the daughter of Kenneth Newton McKenzie and Charlotte Flinn. Randall sold his land in Belleville in 1890 to William Cochran and moved to Wirt County. After the birth of her son Hart, Virginia experienced medical problems which resulted in her traveling to an Adventist Sanitarium in Philadelphia. She died there in early 1903, far from her family. She is buried in Frazer PA (Philadelphia Memorial Park), just west of Philadelphia.
Randall was a Seventh-Day Adventist. He wore a long white beard in his later years. Randall would swear by saying "pshaw!" and "plagit!" (plague on it). He was a lean man, and worked hard until shortly before his death. Randall went to bed about 8 pm each night, then rose at 5 to eat a light breakfast preceded by a cup of warm water. He then pulled on the gum boots he always wore, picked up the lantern and set out for the barn. He sometimes wore a straw hat while working, other times he wore an old leather hat, described as "stained and moldy, resembling a Confederate cap". Randall had a hole in one toe that gave him problems. He wrapped it every morning, but he eventually contracted blood poisoning. A doctor recommended amputation, but being uninterested in the advice of medical professionals, he refused. The toe finally developed gangrene and he became terminally ill. Randall died March 11, 1939 in Wirt County at home on Little Island Run. He is buried on Flint Run.
